In Mexico, approximately 10 women are killed every day – with every third one being killed solely because of her gender. Out of jealousy, anger, or simply because they are stronger. The perpetrators: mostly the partner, the ex-partner, or the partner of the mother. However, hardly any case is officially recognized as femicide, let alone solved – 93% of the crimes go unpunished. Activists speak of a national emergency and have declared the country a "Femicide State." On International Women's Day, there were violent protests outside the presidential palace. Despite the Covid pandemic, calls for further protests are being made online to break the patriarchal pact, the machismo, as according to the feminist movement "#NiUnaMas #NiUnaMenos" "is the true plague in the country."
